Resilience

Resilience

This month, we have talked about reflection, adopting new habits, making every bite count, and our diet mentality. So what comes next for our final blog week? We’re tying it altogether by highlighting a growth mindset, also known as resilience.

Resilience is more than just a buzz word for this new decade that we find ourselves in. It’s important for a lot of reasons, but growth is probably one of the most important ones. So pivotal that researchers and authors are dedicating their time to sharing the knowledge they have in this area.

In Mindset, by Carol Dweck, individuals with a “growth” mindset (as opposed to a “fixed” mindset) embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, welcome effort and learn from criticism. GRIT: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth is another book that has received rave reviews by many, including counselors and therapists.

As a result of the great work in this field, ACE Fitness shares tips to foster a growth mindset:

  • Focus on process, not outcomes
  • View challenges and effort as the path to mastery
  • Find inspiration in the success of others
  • Avoid defining yourself based on results
  • Be willing to fail, to be wrong and to start over again while keeping in mind the lessons learned

Surely, easier said than done, however these are great ideas to strive for as we cultivate our mindset to set ourselves up for our own version of success. Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all plan for healthy living, but instead learning what works best for your body is the best plan on the market.

What habits do you put into practice or would you like to start to feed a healthy growth mindset?
